about

This song was written for my students.

As a middle school teacher I get to meet hundreds of students each year, every single one of them different... every single one of them trying to figure out where they belong. Middle school is hard; if not academically, then socially. So, I wrote this song partially as a letter to my students, and entirely as a letter to anyone who has ever felt broken. We've all been through one experience or another that has made us feel small or insignificant... the important thing is whether we let that experience consume us, or rise above it and realize our value regardless of what anyone else says. Never let them win.

If you are currently being bullied, stick up for yourself or speak up so that others can stick up for you, and please stick around.

lyrics

Some days you’ll feel the pain
Like never ending rain
Some days youth dart will break
Until you think it’s all you can take

But little sister can’t you see
That’s not how it has to be
Little brother don’t look down
Just take a breath and turn around

Cause it gets better
As we get older
Some loves grow warmer
Some friends grow colder
And there may always be a handful of fools
Trying to bring you down
Oh, but stick around.

When everyday’s a fight
Just to wake up and survive
You know you don’t need to hide
Just find the strength you have inside

We don’t always know the way
But I promise that’s okay
Just brush the hate right off your skin
and don’t you ever let them win

Cause it gets better
As we get older
Some loves grow warmer
Some friends grow colder
And there may always be a handful of fools
Trying to bring you down
Oh, but stick around.

Cause it gets better if you let it.
This life's worth living
Don't you forget it
Although sometimes it may seem
That all of your dreams
Are crumbling to the ground
Oh, stick around.
